FAQ
What happens in the first session / initial assessment?
During the first session, we have the chance to get to know each other a bit more and to see what your difficulties are. We might need to do steps straight away to make you safe. I might use some psychometric tests to point us in the right direction. If I would feel you would benefit from a formal diagnosis by a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist, I will refer you on. I will also ask some necessary information from you like next of kin and GP details. We will sign an open-ended therapy contract so you can finish therapy at any point with no obligation. Finally, we decide what the best achievable goal would be in therapy.
How long does a session last?
Each session is 50 minutes long.
Why does the session only last for 50 minutes and not a full hour?
The length of the session depends on the therapist, but the 50 minutes long clinical hour is quite common. The therapy doesn’t stop by you leaving. Some additional admin might need to be done. Also, I deeply care about my clients, and it takes time for me to unwind and be ready and open for the next.
What happens if you find my problems too difficult?
I am trained to work in-depth with highly challenging issues. I do not think any problem is too difficult. It is more to do with my competence and skills and your best interest. If I feel I would not be the best therapist for you and what you are bringing is outside my expertise, I will try referring you on or point you in the right direction. However, this is very rarely the case.
Can I end therapy at any point?
Yes, we are signing an open-ended contract what you can end at any point if it would be the case.
How do I know if you are qualified enough to work with me?
I am accredited by UKCP and registered member of BACP. These are the two major professional bodies regulating and accrediting psychotherapy and counselling professionals. I have a master’s degree in counselling and psychotherapy and over fifteen years of experience in the field of counselling and NLP. Please see the ABOUT section if you want to learn more.
